Honoring Outstanding Efforts in the Mental Health Movement The
mpower youth awards celebrate the lives and work
of young
people—children, teens and young adults—who
have spoken out
about mental health disorders to help eliminate stigma.
Criteria - Nominees must have:
•
Personal experience in dealing with a disorder that
has affected them, a friend or a family member
• Addressed
mental health issues in their community, such as:
forming a peer support group or club, advocating
for mental
health policy or system change, speaking to classmates
or a
youth group, writing an song, article or essay, or
talking with
the media. Winners will be honored at Mental Health America ’s
Annual Conference and awarded a Medal of Excellence
in recognition
of their efforts. Winners will also participate in
focus groups and be asked to make themselves available
to speak with the media. (Youth under the age of
18 must have parental permission.)
Mental Health America values diversity in mental health systems,
services and supports, and strongly encourages nominations
of youth from diverse racial, cultural, ethnic and
linguistic communities and populations.
